In August of ‘02, Yale released a story about a family in Connecticut who had ultra high bone density. No history of fractures in family members linked to this single gene mutation. The press release compares them to the main character in Unbreakable, David Dunn, played by Bruce Willis.
This is truly an amazing discovery, not only for ways to treat bone disease, but to help people live stronger/healthier lives. Some people believe that it means more “gifted” people are being discovered in the world, perhaps due to evolution, others believe we’re just hearing more about them due to the advent of global communication. I think it’s the latter.
Either way, if people had access to enhancements that allowed for these seemingly beneficial conditions, I think the world would be a much better place. Also, as sad as it is to say, the only way to get any real funding for this will be because there are police and military applications here too. Imagine Super-Soldiers and Super-Cops with unbreakable bones. If anyone has heard any updates to this news or research in the last half decade, I’d very much appreciate a heads up.
