The Iron Lion of Leicester

Manjit Singh

This post is going to be about a man I’ve come to admire; Manjit Singh the Iron Lion. He’s been given a few names in addition to The Iron Lion of Leicester England, such as Iron Man, but I like Iron Lion the best.

Manjit has set at least 25 world records with his vast feats of physical ability. Most of them center around pure stamina, but there are some strength ones too. They are partially listed on his website.

These feats demonstrate that not only does he have great strength and durability, but that he also has vast lung power, stamina, and speed.

Youtube is littered with videos of his feats and accomplishments. His records regarding lung power are what initially caught my eye about him after I wrote my post on Heavy Breathers and are, excuse the pun, breathtaking.

There are several other good things I have to say about him as well. His physical shape is extraordinary, but generally so as he does feats from all different categories. He’s not just a big, slow, cumbersome, muscle-freak, nor is he a skinny little wisp of a person. He’s virtually tireless, maintaining peak performance levels long after others would have slowed to a stop.

While I haven’t been able to find a chart detailing his training, it doesn’t seem to be too physically intense, as his website says he does a lot of Meditation, Prayer, and Yoga in addition to weight lifting. I’d also like to get a peek at his lunch-box and find out what his diet consists of.

Having there be a man able to achieve this level of physical accomplishment is truly an example of what we could all achieve with dedication. My hat goes off to him.

Universal Energy Cleaner/Mexistim

Lee Crock
Lee Crock

Awhile ago, I stumbled upon this website. It was created in part by a man named Lee Crock who built (and patented) a device for flushing your body’s aura/bioelectric field to improve healing and detoxification. While this seems like it could be a scam, Lee sells his devices and uses the money to run a charity clinic that uses them to help people with whatever’s ailing them.

Keelynet’s own, Jerry Decker
Jerry Decker.

Jerry Decker over on Keelynet is pretty supportive, not only of Lee himself but also of his device. With Lee’s blessing Jerry started building a variation on the energy cleanser himself and selling it for a couple hundred bucks, as well as distributing plans on how to build one from Keelynet. He calls his the Mexistim.

Long story short, this caught my eye for many reasons. While the reasoning of Lee as to why his device works seems plausible to me, it’s also somewhat pseudo-scientific, and I like theory. Another reason is that I like Jerry Decker and we seem to share similar world views about a lot of things even though he doesn’t even know I exist.

Plus I like the idea of passive health, little things you can do to improve yourself and then not have to maintain them. These devices strikes me as that, build/buy them, put them somewhere you spend a lot of time, sit back and feel the benefits kick in.

I’ve decided to build one, as I have some skill with electronics and I’m living on the cheap. I’d like to test it out for myself, just not thoroughly mind you. I’m not going to go in for a complete battery of tests and then another one in a month and compare them or anything. Nor am I going to stop doing the other things I do to heal myself just so I can say “It was only the Mexistim”.

If I build one, use it, and it works, GREAT! If it doesn’t, I haven’t lost much. I’ll post updates on how I acquire the parts and actually build it, maybe with some Youtube videos. Stay tuned.

Streamlining Your Life to Live Cheaper Part 3

Posted by Brent On May - 23 - 2008
Continued from Part 2.

In this part, I’m going to talk about a couple touchy subjects, one of which applies to me: Child Support and Alimony.

These are things a lot of people have trouble with, mostly because they don’t trust their ex to use the money for the children. It took me awhile to realize that child support wasn’t so that the ex had a few hundred extra dollars a month to spend on drugs or booze or whatever, it was to improve her and therefore my daughter’s quality of life, even if just a little.

You see, she could spend 200 bucks a month of her money on cigarettes, for example, and use the child support to pay for things for your children, or use the child support/alimony to buy cigarettes and spend HER money on the children. Either way both are accomplished, she’s happy which hopefully means the babies will be better off.

You CAN’T save money on this. I can understand not wanting to pay either, but you’ve got to. If you’re making money here in BC, Canada, you pay a percentage of your income. It’s the right thing to do and if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. I’ve seen too many deadbeat dads and I’d hate to think any of my readers would lower themselves to that. Little guilt trip for ya ;-) .

Anyway, to avoid ever having to pay things like this, a few points are important. USE CONTRACEPTION OR ABSTAIN. I now firmly believe you should only have children with someone you’re married to or have made a long term commitment to and have been with for a number of years. That way the chances of ever having kids to end up in this situation will be far less.

If you’re getting married, and many people have trouble with this, get a prenuptial agreement. NOTHING is certain in this world, you guys may have tons of love for one another and think “This is never going to end, prenups are just an insulting waste of time.” Not so.

Feelings change constantly for EVERYONE, it’s human nature. Your relationships will grow and change and you may decide that someday you don’t want to be together anymore. In this case a prenuptial agreement is important, so that not only can one spouse not take the other for half or more of everything said spouse has earned, but they can also be constructed so as to not have alimony tacked on. I know many traditionalists who will disagree with that, but if you marry someone and it doesn’t work out, do you want to have to finance their life forever so they don’t have to work as much or at all? Didn’t think so.

I also think that people should only get married on equal footing, so that if one spouse never went to school and has no job or training they won’t completely end up with the shaft. If you’re going to get married, make sure you’re compatible. Some of the happiest couples never wed, Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn for instance.

So as outlined above, whether you agree with me completely or not, plan everything out when it’s THIS important. I don’t mean to come off sounding preachy or like a marriage counselor, but I’m firmly of the opinion that it’s not to be taken lightly, bringing a life into this world, or changing your life by adding someone to it (hopefully) for good.

Streamlining Your Life to Live Cheaper Part 2

Posted by Brent On May - 23 - 2008
Continued from Part 1.

Hello and welcome to part 2 of Streamlining Your Life. In this part I’m going to continue to talk about ways to cut expenses and increase efficiency in more aspects of life.

Power: Power’s pretty interesting. If you’re living out of a van or an apartment, save yourself some cash by turning everything off and unplugging those appliances that have lights glowing away even when they’re off. Don’t use a microwave, some people think they’re bad for you because of the radiation, you shouldn’t be eating anything that has to be cooked in one anyway.

Turn off every light and appliance when sunlight will suffice or no one is in the room using the juice. A high insulation energy saving fridge will keep your food just as cold but with less power. Alternatively, you could ferment more of your food and keep it that way for long periods.

Invest in LED lights, they’re comparably as bright as an incandescent and require far less power. There’s also kinetic shaker flashlights for use in a pinch. The gravity fed lamps mentioned here would be a dream come true. Quick boiling kettles use far less energy in the long run too.

Solar battery chargers are a pretty neat invention to use with rechargeable batteries, free power.

Natural Gas/Heat: Not wasting heat is very important, especially when it’s cold and prices rise. Making sure your place of living has no cracks where drafts can get in or out, and good weather stripping is important. Good insulation to keep the cold out and the heat in is also a biggie.

Those chrome looking heat reflective blankets are great too and very cheap. I had a thermal sleeping bag years ago that could keep you warm as toast in your car at -40 C outside. All of these things will not only keep you warm when it’s chilly, they’ll cut your costs. And don’t forget that instead of bumping the thermostat, put on a sweater.

Water Protocol

Posted by Brent On May - 23 - 2008

Presently, I follow the adage of drinking as many ounces of water as my weight in pounds divided by 2. In my present case, I weigh 232 lbs so divide by 2 and I should be drinking 116 oz of water per day, which is about what I drink.

Nestle Pure Life

As to what kind I drink, I go with Nestle Pure Life. I don’t like the idea of bottled water, but I have yet to find a filter that meets my standards. Nestle Pure Life has low mineral salt content at 87 parts per million and thankfully its fluoride ion content is ZERO ppm. If you drink bottled or filtered water, make sure it has no fluoride.

Current studies show that fluoride is a poison and is bad for your body and potentially your teeth.

I’m in the middle of trying to find a chlorine free bottled water brand as chlorinated water gives me increasingly bad heartburn with larger concentrations of chlorine. Not only that, but chlorinated water has been linked to killing your internal probiotic strains as well as causing arteriosclerosis. Not something I really want in my system.

As I’ve said you can buy bottled water with no fluoride, but you can also use easily removable filters to get water from free public sources to store for later. Chlorine will eventually evaporate out of water if you leave it out in a jug or something, I have yet to find a filter that effectively removes chlorine however.

Drinking water is super important for your health, which as I always say lowers your costs in the long run and helps keep you happy and productive.

Being hydrated helps keep your salt consumption in check, it also helps your body to filter out and remove some of the sludge that accumulates inside you. Plus it’s much more thirst quenching than energy drinks or Gatorade or soda, without any of the horrible side effects that come with consuming the caffeine, sugar, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and chemicals (aka artificial flavors and colours) that’s in those things in massive amounts. Not to mention water lacks the teeth rotting acid in Coke and Pepsi.

I’ve already covered a couple negatives about water with fluoride and chlorine, but parasites are another big one, don’t drink river or creek water without testing or purifying it first.

Many people don’t care about what kind of water they consume as long as they drink enough. I wouldn’t want to put that much fluoride or chlorine in my guts, if you’re broke though, and you have no alternative in a hurry, then city water is better than no water. Bottled water is still cheaper than pop and if you can afford pop go with water.

Make sure you clean whatever you use to store water regularly as it can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
