“This article is about Yeast Infection The Mouth, or rather yeast infections in the mouth. Yeast infections in the mouth are commonly known as thrush, or oral thrush. This is when yeast in the mouth begins to overgrow, it can be painful but it’s usually just gross. This yeast is also known as candida albicans or monilia, and along with other flora, is found naturally in our bodies. Under normal circumstances it exists peacefully within our digestive systems, but under certain circumstances will grow out of control and cause infections or diseases. The mouth is one of the main centers of yeast activity in the body.

Yeast Infection The Mouth or oral thrush is fairly common in certain groups of people. Babies are particularly vulnerable. As are people who wear dentures or have diabetes. If you’re undergoing chemotherapy, or taking antibiotics or other medicines, you’re also at risk. Lastly, if you have a compromised immune system for any reason or have an unhealthy diet, you too will be susceptible. These are all the factors that can lead to having an oral yeast infection. When dealing with a baby, you need to keep in mind that their immune systems/internal flora are not fully developed, especially in their mouths. This means that without oral probiotic bacteria, yeast can run out of control in your child’s mouth.

You can tell if you have Yeast Infection The Mouth by the various symptoms it causes. These symptoms include the growth of whitish patches, or pustules, the can burst into bleeding when touched. Logically then, it would be a good idea not to touch these patches. These areas are horribly uncomfortable and will feel like they’re burnt. If you begin to have these symptoms, you can consult your doctor to get lab tests ordered and make sure you have an oral thrush infection. With babies, doctors can easily tell if they have an infection by looking, but if you’re an adult you should seek lab testing as certain cancers can manifest similar symptoms.

There are many treatments and causes that need to be considered when dealing with Yeast Infection The Mouth, mostly so that infection does not recur. If you have a yeast infection due to having dentures, make sure they’re fitted properly to your mouth. If they don’t fit you properly, go to a professional and have then redone. When diabetes causes your infection, talk to your doctor about your diet and controlling your insulin levels so that you take in the proper amount of sugar and don’t feed the yeast. Finally if your yeast overgrowth is caused by your lousy diet, then make the changes yourself. Stop eating so many sweets, and advice that helps some people is to cut out white foods altogether.

When you have Yeast Infection The Mouth you need to get rid of it fast so that it can’t cause the horrible effects that it leads to. If you want, you can get your doctor to prescribe anti-fungal medication or get some from the pharmacy such as lamisil or nystatin, but this can be hit-or-miss. When you do get over the counter medication, make sure you know exactly what it is and what all of the potential side effects are. You MUST make certain that oral thrush is actually what you have. Whichever route you decide to take, make sure you do it quickly and effectively.”
